The Five Elements In Feng Shui

Metal
The most common solution, Metal can be found in Copper, Silver, Gold, Pewter and Bronze. Using the Metal Element can take on all sorts of creative ideas. A cast pewter flarm is one idea. A copper plate hung on the wall is another.

The key thing to remember is that Feng Shui is about creating a beautiful environment. When utilizing the Metal Element, ensure that it is rounded and pleasing, not sharp and pointed.

Metal is the most commonly used remedy for the negative Earth energies as mentioned above. Ideally, the goal is to introduce Feng Shui elemental solutions that are not identifiable as Feng Shui remedies. Feng Shui objects that should blend into the environment and be beautiful are recommended.

The colors of White, Silver, or Gold can be used.
Metal represents the Dui Trigram (Kua No.7) in the West. Dui is a ‘yin’ metal such as gold. It is also the Chien Trigram (Kua No.6) in the North West. Chien is a ‘yang’ metal like steel.

Water
Water is the give life on our planet. Without it, we would not exist. In Feng Shui, Water is a very useful element. Water, when needed, should be clear and flowing. Stagnant water can create more problems than it solves.

A simple aquarium, or even a small "metal" fountain can be used. Do not use ceramic or other earthen fountains. This is because the Earth element blocks water and neutralizes the positive effect of the Water. Outside, a metal trough, a fountain, or even a fish pond can act as an environmental solution.

Water has always been synonymous with power. Water has been used as an elemental solution by the emperors in the form of moats and by placing their palaces near bodies of Water. If you look at most capital cities today, they are either located near the water or have large lakes or rivers nearby. But remember, the direction of facing is more inportant then having those "water" elements nearby.

Water can be represented by the colors blue or black and gray. Water represents the Kan Trigram (Kua No.1) in the North.

Out Door Practicle School

To conclude, you should not use any of these elements haphazardly. A proper Feng Shui analysis should be performed by a qualified practitioner. The elements can cause harm to relationships, health, or money prosperity if incorrectly placed.

The Five Elements In Feng Shui

The Five Elements 风水五行
It seems that many people today who have heard about Feng Shui, also have heard about the Five Elements. These elements; Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water are the foundation theory for Feng Shui balance. There also seems to be some confusion about just what these elements really are and how they work. Actually, it is fairly simple and based on common sense. It is easy to understand the elements and their significance. Using them properly and in the correct proportion is what separates a master from a student. The following is a brief description of each of these elements and how they might be applied.

Wood 木
We start with the wood element since it is the beginning of new life. Just as spring brings new plants and new life, wood is the originator of the five elemental cycles.

To harness the Qi of wood, A bushy plant is ideal to emits live Qi and is also an excellent method of retaining Qi. Plants recycle the air we breathe and can provide a natural filter for the air.

A common Feng Shui problem is the staircase that empties into a doorway. A bushy plant can retain some of that Qi, when it is placed either on the landing, or more ideally, at the bottom of the staircase. Remember that you want a live plant, so maintain it. A dead plant holds no Qi and is actually a "Sha" (unsightly or bad influence).

Wood can be represented by the color groups of green or lt.brown. We find that the colors and sharp are also effective though as the actual element. There is rarely an occasion when you need to substitute the color for a living plant. Wood represents the directions of East and the Chen 震 Trigram (Kua No.3) and also represents the South East and the Sun Trigram (Kua No.4).

Fire 火
The Fire Element is the most "Yang" of the elements. It is the hot summer or a blast of heat. In Feng Shui, we usually use a red lamp or "lianten" or just a pieces of red paper. I will recommends the color red moA red night light or a table lamp with a red shade make excellent Fire remedies.Fire represents the South and the Li 离Trigram (Kua No.9).

Earth 土
Earth is an interesting element despite the rather commonplace conception of dirt. Earth is recommended for a larger environmental solution. In this case large granite boulders or a beautiful clay statue can be used. Yellow and dk.brown colors represents Earth. Besides, Earth also represents the Mountain.
Earth represents the North East or the Ken Trigram (Kua no.8). It also represents the South West or the Kun Trigram (Kua no.2). Additionally, it represents the "Center" of the Origin Trigram (Kua No.5).
Kun (Kua No.2) and the "center" representation of "Kua No.5" 'Sha Qi' 煞气can have negative influences, whereas the Ken Trigram (Kua No.8 also referred to as the Mountain) can have a very prosperous influence.

Feng Shui Art

The ancient art of feng shui has been practiced in China for thousand of years. Feng shui is not a miracle cure but rather a metaphysical science and also an art. As a science, feng shui encompassed a wide study of geography, geology, topography, astronomy, astrology, mathematics and the flow of cosmic energy (Qi).

In short, Feng shui is a form of physiognomy which is the art of assessing the physical features and qi of a property to determine its effects on the occupants in terms of compatibility, career, personal luck, health, family relationships and the general well being.
In Chinese terminology, Feng literally means wind and Shui means water, which is the interacting Qi of heaven and earth. Both air and water are the most basic essentials to ensure the survival of mankind.

Feng shui principles such as shapes, layout, symmetry, dimensions, height, interior decor, landscaping, orientation, weather, yin yang and the five elements. Scientifically, the north south orientation of the buildings was aligned to the stars in order to harness the cosmic energies from the universe and to protect against the harsh winter wind from the north. These buildings will also avoid the placement of doors and windows on the north wall.

The fundamental philosophy of feng shui is based on the principles of I-Ching 64 hexagrams, the cycles of the 5 elements, the balancing of Yin Yang, the eight trigrams of the Bagua and the theories of Luo shu and He Tu.

In Form School of feng shui, a house with good feng shui should be situated on elevated ground and be embraced by a U shaped formation from the surrounding hills and mountains. This form of landscape formation is symbolically represented by the four celestial animals namely, with the black tortoise hill at the back of the house to symbolized support, a higher green dragon hill on the left, a lower white tiger hill on the right and the red phoenix hill in front.........

In addition, the house must be facing a meandering river to ensure that the nourishing Qi is able to accumulate in front of the house, ensuring good fortunes and prosperity for the occupants.

During hot seasons, the river will provide a cooling effect and act as a source of water supply in case there is a fire in the house. Basically, the embracing formation and the green vegetation of the surrounding landscapes will act as a form of protection from strong winds, landslides and floods.

However, in modernized cities where mountains and rivers is not a common sight, tall buildings symbolized mountains and roads are viewed as rivers, which in feng shui will have a significant effect on our mind, actions, spirits and fate.

The term Qi in Chinese refers to a life energy that is ever present and circulating in our environment. Ideally, a perfect feng shui model requires blessing and harmony from the trinity forces of heaven, earth and human qi. From heaven, there is the cosmic energy from the stars, the air, the weather, the four seasons and the forces of yin yang. On earth, qi flows through the undulating contours of the mountains, rivers, underground springs, vegetation, buildings and magnetic field that shaped the topography of the land.

The human Qi refers to the cultural, social, educational and family background of a person, which tends to shape one’s character, actions, habits, health and aura. In other words, feng shui is the art of harnessing auspicious qi from these three realms to bring about beneficial effects such as the enhancement of one’s luck, fate and aid in the achievement of personal goals.
It is still very difficult to unveil the hidden secrets and meanings behind the ancient feng shui texts that have been written by great masters. This is because in olden times, the practices and application of feng shui were confined to the Emperors and the imperial officials.

In order to prevent the unethical practices of feng shui, much of the feng shui secrets and theories were written in the form of poems with no punctuation to mislead or confused the reader. As a result, most of the closely guarded feng shui techniques were passed down through oral transmission from the Master to their immediate families.

Today, a feng shui master is like the doctor of the environment. During a feng shui audit, the master will conduct a detailed study of the external environment, the orientation, the layout of the house as well as the destiny analysis of the occupants. Subsequently, the master would recommend measures to correct any disharmony or imbalances in our living and working environment.

According to Chinese belief, the success of a person depends on 6 main factors:·
* Destiny
* Luck
* Feng shui
* Charitable deeds
* Education
* Chinese Name

Very often, most people tend to focus only on the feng shui of the house and overlook the physical feng shui of oneself. A person with good physical feng shui has strong human Qi. These are confident people who possessed strong interpersonal skills, which enable them to create new opportunities from their networking, in return enable them to obtain support from important people. To take a holistic approach, it is equally important to create a good feng shui for the house and also for oneself.

In conclusion, I hoped that this article would help to evict some of the common misconceptions about feng shui, especially for people who are skeptical and regards feng shui as a form of superstition.

Last but not least, feng shui is a science and not a miracle cure for all our problems.
